Live Auction Bidding Tips and Rules
General
- Upon arrival to the Gala, please check in at the registration desk. You will be assigned a bid number and corresponding bid paddle. The bid number functions are a legally binding signature for your bids at the Gala.
- All sales are final. No exchanges or refunds on Auction items are permitted. All items are sold “as-is”. Please read item descriptions and restrictions carefully before placing a bid.
- Unless otherwise specified, all Auction item certificates expire within 1 year of the Gala. Redemption of the certificates are to be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and the buyer. We recommend contacting the donor within 2 weeks of the Auction.
- Auction items are not transferable from buyer to anyone else without the express permission of the donor.
- Payment for all Auction item is due at the close of the Gala. To avoid credit card processing fees to CDS and maximize proceeds, we request you pay by check. Please remember to bring your checkbooks to the Gala.
- Buyers should take home items at the end of the Gala. Any remaining items may be picked up in the CDS office no later than April 7th.
- Check with your tax advisor regarding deductibility of individual items. In general, you may only receive a tax deduction if the price you pay is greater than retail value.
- By his or her purchase, the buyer waives any claims for liability against Country Day School or the donor of the property or service. Neither the school nor the donor is responsible for any personal injuries or damage to property that may result from the use of property or services sold.

- The Live Auction will begin after dinner at approximately 9pm.
- Your bid paddle contains your personal bid number. A bid for a Live Auction Item is entered by raising your paddle and being recognized by the Auctioneer or his staff.
- Live Auction items are listed numerically in the catalog and the Auctioneer will follow this same order.
- An acknowledged bid is a binding offer to purchase the item.
- On the fall of the Auctioneer’s gavel or other notification by the Auctioneer, the highest bidder will be the purchaser of the item.
- In the event of a dispute, the Auctioneer will act as the final authority in determining the winning bid.
